Our sleep patterns change with age as do our attitudes toward sleep. Sleep is key for children because it directly impacts physical and mental development.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, newborns sleep about 14 to 17 hours, toddlers sleep about 11-14 hours, school-aged children 9-11 hours, and teenagers sleep about 8-10 hours
Most common sleep problems in children and teenagers:
- Resisting bed time
- Nighttime awakenings
- Puberty-related changes affect hormones which can shift the biological clock
